As a low level character, a majority of the free-to-play and or preferred restrictions you face will be convenience-based. Preferred players will have a lot more options available on top of all those F2P activities, depending on what the last expansion they unlocked was and what level their characters are.

Before you start buying a lot of unlocks, evaluate how much you really want and need and determine if it would be cheaper to just buy a subscription, rather than purchasing lots of unlocks and bonuses as you go.
I'm sure if they could find a way to prevent current and previous account holders from opening new F2P accounts they would, since half the restrictions are aimed at preventing people from using F2P accounts as pocket empaths, mages, and locksmiths.

It carries with it all the same restrictions the 14-day trial did - limits on chat, guild membership, group membership, mail, trade, auction, and max gold (10gp up from 2gp I believe), and level cap (20) - only you can do this as long as you want with as many characters as you want (including BC races and classes).

The sub income isn’t being impacted, which is why this isn’t EVE going F2P, despite the easy-to-write headline we are seeing. WoW didn’t go F2P when the trial was made unlimited in terms of time.

F2P games don't give a sustained profit, at all, ever. Rift is the only maybe since we have yet to see it play out. MMOs that have been F2P a while have subscription models to keep servers up, pmuch.

Well-designed F2P games don't have to rely on this kind restrictions to defend from hackers/scammers: they design the game from the start so that bringing an account to the point of being exploitable is a massive investment.

The way I see it, it's better for them to go into it expecting a trial and get a good trial, than to go into it expecting F2P and getting a trial instead. I have a post-2016 F2p test account I made just so I’d be able to talk about the restrictions. That account now has 3 slots; the original, one we all got for an anniversary and the PvE saga slot.

I know, I’m odd, but it made me more curious about the game and I really didn’t like the restrictions I saw on the free server. It seemed like you could get more for the same price on a sub server. With my paladin in WoW basically being a rogue, this may be my new home.
To me the worst part of the f2p system they have is the restriction on the gear, not even being able to use Legendary is honestly a bit much. I have no issue with them restricting raid-level gear, but not letting you use dungeon-level gear or the big heritage/heirloom/whatever quest items like the Polished Granite Tomahawk really hurts.
